Resumo

Hydrogeochemical profiles were made in five volcanic lakes from São Miguel island (Azores - Portugal) in order to characterize pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, total CO₂ and major ion variation with depth. Some lakes present a typical summer temperature stratification, which explains the free CO₂ enrichment observed in a few cases. Instead, in the winter, without thermal stratification, the free CO₂ is almost constant in all the lakes, with the exception of Furnas lake. Results from Furnas and Congro lake suggests the influence of the water-rock interaction, besides the input of volatiles with volcanic origin which explain partially the total CO₂ increase with depth.
