PublicationAbstract
Hydrogeochemical profiles were made in five volcanic lakes from São Miguel island (Azores - Portugal) in order to characterize pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, total CO2 and major ion variation with depth. Some lakes present a typical summer temperature stratification, which explains the free CO2 enrichment observed in a few cases. Instead, in the winter, without thermal stratification, the free CO2 is almost constant in all the lakes, with the exception of Furnas lake. Results from Furnas and Congro lake suggests the influence of the water-rock interaction, besides the input of volatiles with volcanic origin which explain partially the total CO2 increase with depth.
