Since the settlement of the Azores Islands, during the XV century, several eruptions, seismic swarms and earthquakes have been reported, some of them causing severe damage and a significant number of casualties. This work presents a revision and reinterpretation of macroseismicity data from the seismic swarm that accompanied Capelinhos eruption. The data available in unpublished reports, press releases and scientific publications was reanalysed under the guidelines of the European Macroseismic Scale (EMS-1998). A map of local intensities, considering the cumulated effects of the whole seismic activity, is presented.
