SILVA, C., VIVEIROS, F. (2020) - Indoor radon (222Rn) continuous monitoring in a building located at Furnas Volcano during 2017. Comunicações Geológicas, 107, Especial I, 157-159, ISSN: 0873-948X; e-ISSN: 1647-581X.

Resumo

A continuous indoor radon (222Rn) monitoring was performed in a building located at Furnas Volcano. This volcano is one of the three central active volcanoes located at S. Miguel Island, and nowadays presents several degassing manifestations at the surface. As a radioactive gas, 222Rn can represent a threat to public health when it accumulates in buildings, and in extreme cases the exposure to this gas can be responsible for the development of lung cancer. The recorded 222Rn values were above the recommended ones by the World Health Organization (WHO), reveling that, even in areas where the soil 222Rn concentration is not very high, the indoor recommended limits can be surpassed. In order to understand the statistical influence of environmental parameters on the indoor 222Rn concentration, multivariate regression and spectral analyses were applied to the recorded time series.
