Resumo

On the 9th of July 1998, a 5,8 (Md) earthquake occurred, followed by several aftershocks, stroking 3 islands of the Central Group of Azores Archipelago, Faial, Pico and São Jorge. This event caused 8 deaths, over 100 injures and thousands of homeless. Several landslides were triggered by the earthquake on the 3 islands, namely in the NW flank of Vulcão da Caldeira (Faial), on the upper part of Ribeira Funda watershed. The main goal of this work was the landslide and flooding areas susceptibility assessment, for mitigation of future events.
